Derek McGannon Blog 04 10/27/2021 What's New   I started this healing process trying to fit Nido and Steve into the right places but it was not working becuase steve's smart object was wider and nidos was taller. I also noticed that Nido was grainy because I had to zoom in to use his cutout. I decided to use better and higher resolution images with more pixels to work with. I cleaned up the edges so my quick select tool did not have the backgrounds bleeding through. I went a little farther and added text bubbles to clean up the flow of the meme and make it more of a comical discussion between both businessmen. I reformated the money into different areas but I plan to do more with that before the final project What's Next I plan to blend the books in Nido's right hand with his jacket so they disappear.  MEME: Rough Draft Derek McGannon 10/6/21 IDEA:     The point behind this meme is to shed light on how ironic one of High Point's Rules are. There is a five hundred dollar fine per limb placed in an HPU fountain. This is ironic because one of High Point's most respected traditions is for seniors to place their hand in the water fall fountain behind Slane. While there is no fine for this specific fountain, I thought that it would be funny to see it as a money waterfall or a scam. Nido and his business partners making money off of tricking kids into committing a finable offense and one day he is going to collect. Business Card September 20, 2021 Derek McGannon Blog 02 Intro The creation of a business card was fun for me becuase it challenged my skills in InDesign. I found photoshop natural and fun, but InDesign brought about a different way of thinking for me. I wanted to go with a simplistic design that was also tasteful and different. The standard business card is outdated and my goal was to twist the standard design slightly as to not overwhelm a viewer with something completely different. Creation I started with the standard US Business Card size of 3.5'' x 2'' on a blank canvas in InDesign (Vistaprint). With my bleed at .137'', I formatted with a end goal in mind. "You’ve got to find the angle that gives you something that really works, or maybe something even better" because "working the shot" is an art form not a science (Kennedy, 2012). Deriving a Theme Working the shot requires a subject that can be looked at completely different at every angle, creating meaning from perspective.
